Thanh Cherry
Early childhood education has always been her focus and passion and she has been involved in early childhood education for over 40 years. She attended an Early Childhood education course in Cape Town for 3 months, and completed a Diploma in Steiner - Early Childhood Teacher Training in Sydney. Upon graduating, she worked as kindergarten assistant-teacher for a year, gaining hands-on knowledge from a true master. She holds a Master degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Western Sydney.
In 1983 she co-founded a Rudolf Steiner school in Bowral, outside Sydney. She taught the kindergarten there for 23 years, during which time she attended numerous national and international advanced training courses in Waldorf education as well as self-development. She also began to run workshops and teacher training courses in many parts of Australia.
For the last 17 years, she has worked as an early childhood teacher trainer, mentor and consultant in many parts of the world, especially Asia – Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, The United States and Vietnam. In the last 6 years she has also been giving training and mentoring workshops for teachers, carers and parents of Aboriginal children in Australia. Since 2009, her teaching and mentoring activities overseas have concentrated on 2 countries in particular, China and Vietnam. She has founded 3 Steiner kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City in 2002, 2003 and 2005 as well as supporting an orphanage and being teacher trainer and mentor for the teachers and orphanage workers. In July 2010, she became official coordinator for the Waldorf Early Childhood Training and Mentoring Programme in China, known as WECC.
Her work is with children from 0 to 7, with their teachers, carers and parents in the most diverse linguistic and cultural circumstances. She believes in the importance of respecting the child's dignity and developing his/her full potentials. She strongly believes that children should be nurtured in love, surrounded by beauty and allowed to benefit from imaginative play, artistic activities, contact with nature, toys made from natural materials and their own unique cultural heritage as well as the world's.
