Prerana Waldorf School
Prerana, which means “Sublime Inspiration” was started in the year 2001, as an outcome of the immediate requirement to bring into focus the changing needs of the modern child. The drudgery of endless exams and early intellectualizing, have deprived the children of their natural innocence and the simple joys of childhood. It was in the midst of burning issues, that Prerana, from an inspiring ideal became a tangible reality.
Waldorf education is a healing balm desperately needed in a high speed electronic world which fractionalizes and desensitizes the human being in so many different ways. The technologies of our times bring additional, often welcome comforts and conveniences into our lives but also have the effect of dividing and isolating individuals. In a materialistic society driven by consumerism, the benefits are shared among a select few, those with adequate money and resources to pay, and questions of social or moral responsibility are often ignored.

In our 9 years as a growing school, we have seen that families from all walks of life yearn for the healing of Waldorf education but the costs are beyond the grasp of so very many. It is our goal to help make Waldorf education available to all who desire it, particularly the middle class and below middle class as well, with a tuition and fee policy which is based on a sliding scale. A fair and equitable opportunity is provided to all and the strength of our community is founded in the diversity of our experience and those things which bring us together as human beings in a shared spirit of mutual support and respect.
This year, the bonds of our community have been tested somewhat with the relocation of the school and new facilities which are still under construction, a necessary step on many levels but our spirit is strong. Hyderabad, is acknowledged as a world IT hub and the consequences of our rapidly changing lifestyles are abundantly apparent at every turn: Lush green lands are turned into concrete jungles, mighty rocks which have stood the test of time are quickly levelled and reduced to rubble to create new working and living space. |

We consciously chose to relocate our school in the heart of this world of competition and materialism and by example show a different vision, one where human bonds are strengthened, where community is not solely directed or determined by material wealth, and where, in freedom, the human imagination is given fuller expression.
As part of a worldwide movement to encourage social renewal through Waldorf education, our school hopes to provide a glimmer of light, a sanctuary for the human spirit in the midst of powerful and seemingly unconscious forces of change. By honouring the sanctity of childhood, nurturing the human spirit through community, and encouraging the success and moral striving of every student, we provide, in our own small way, a bit of that healing balm and plant the seeds for new growth.
